Social Media Policy
At The Halalographers, we are committed to delivering high-quality, story-driven photography and videography while balancing our marketing needs with a strong respect for client modesty and privacy — especially within Islamic values.
This Social Media & Content Usage Policy outlines our position on how we use the content we create for marketing, portfolio display, and promotional purposes.
1. Introduction & Ownership Rights
As a professional wedding media company, The Halalographers retain full ownership and copyright over all content captured at your event, in accordance with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. This includes all:
Photographs (edited and RAW)
Videos (trailers, highlights, full-length films)
Social media reels
Behind-the-scenes clips
Cover photos (e.g., custom-designed Vogue-style bridal posters)
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, we reserve the exclusive right to use this content for our promotional and marketing purposes. Clients do not hold ownership over the footage or imagery produced, but are granted a usage license for personal, non-commercial purposes.
2. Purpose of Content Usage
The content we share helps us promote our work, attract future clients, and continue to grow our business. Social media platforms (such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest) and our website serve as primary channels to showcase the creative storytelling and technical quality of our work.
Our promotional use is governed by the legal basis of Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f) of UK GDPR) and is handled with discretion and care.
3. What Type of Content Might Be Shared
We carefully curate what we post — never sharing indiscriminately. Content may include (but is not limited to):
Bridal portraits (solo, family, pre-entrance, or stage) including side profiles, silhouette shots, or full-body visuals depending on modesty and styling.
Groom portraits and solo moments.
Couple shoots, whether conducted on the wedding day or in separate romantic locations.
Venue and décor imagery, including stage, dining setup, and ceremonial backdrops.
Reels and cinematic trailers showcasing key moments of the event in visual story format.
Cover photos (e.g., magazine-style poster designs).
Drone footage showing exterior views of the venue or artistic establishing shots.
Detail shots such as rings, hands, shoes, jewellery, and floral elements.
Content will never include:
Brides with exposed awrah (legs, arms, neckline, or other areas requiring coverage under Islamic modesty standards).
Brides without hijab (if they normally observe it).
Female-only dancing
Mixed-gender dancing
Where feasible, we may use AI-assisted or manual masking techniques (e.g. adding hijab/niqab, digitally covering skin, or obscuring identity) to make select content suitable for public platforms. However, this is not guaranteed and is dependent on the quality and composition of the shot.
We may also intentionally obscure or avoid faces using:
Side angles
Silhouettes
Partial cropping
Blurring techniques
This discretion is exercised based on visual aesthetics, client modesty, and creative feasibility.
4. Where Content May Appear
Content may be published on the following platforms:
Our official Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest pages
Our public website (thehalalographers.com)
Print marketing materials
Bridal exhibitions and event showcases
Private portfolios shown to prospective clients (segregated by gender when applicable)
We do not sell client images or footage to third parties unless explicitly agreed upon. Any licensing to third-party vendors (e.g. a wedding venue requesting decor shots) is done without sharing facially identifiable client portraits unless permission is granted.
5. Transparency & Client Communication
We understand privacy is a sensitive concern for many clients — particularly in Islamic or female-only events. We aim to balance professional rights with genuine consideration. While we are not obligated to request consent for standard marketing use, we encourage open dialogue from clients with specific sensitivities or modesty requirements.
It is the client’s responsibility to clearly request full privacy in writing before the event. If no such request is made, we reserve the right to use selected content in accordance with this policy.
6. The Keepsake Privacy Service
Clients who wish to prevent any use of their wedding content for social media, marketing, or portfolio display must opt into our Keepsake Privacy Service, which requires:
A signed privacy agreement
An additional fee (as the inability to market affects our business)
Confirmation that no assets will be used in:
Public portfolios
Reels, trailers, or highlights
Behind-the-scenes edits
Social media platforms
Website galleries or features
Without this upgrade, we reserve the right to use selected material as outlined above.
7. Content Removal Requests
We handle all media with care and respect. Should you wish to request the removal of an image or reel post-delivery, we will evaluate the request on a case-by-case basis. However, we are not obligated to remove content unless:
A court order is issued
A data subject’s legal rights under UK GDPR require removal
You have purchased the Keepsake Privacy Service
Removal of content may be subject to an administrative fee.
8. Copyright vs Personal Data
While GDPR protects personal data, it does not override copyright law. The content we produce is our intellectual property, and ownership remains with The Halalographers. We do not provide RAW files or unedited footage under any circumstance.
Even if certain social media posts are removed, we retain full ownership and the right to license or use the content privately or in other ways that do not violate privacy or data protection laws.
9. Client Responsibilities
By engaging with The Halalographers, you acknowledge and accept the following:
You understand that we retain full copyright and usage rights.
You agree to raise privacy concerns prior to the event — not after delivery or publication.
You are responsible for reading our Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and this Social Media Policy before entering into a booking agreement.
You understand that content shared publicly will not be altered or removed without valid grounds or a prior agreement.
